March 5, 2012 – Aubrey, Texas author and multiple World Champion equestrian, Brittany Bevis, recently completed her first children’s book titled ‘Two Foals, a Dash of Sprinkles and a Cherry on Top!” Published by Caballo Press, the book is currently available for pre-order on the company’s website, www.caballopress.com. Once released at the end of November, the book can be ordered at all major and independent bookstores located throughout the United States and the United Kingdom. It will be released in hardback, paperback, and e-book editions.
Brittany Bevis is a graduate of the University of North Texas with a degree in Journalism and Creative Writing. She currently shows American Paint Horses and has earned multiple World and Reserve World Championship titles in Showmanship, Hunter Under Saddle, Equitation, and Western Riding. She is also an APHA Versatility Challenge Champion.
Bevis’s book has been illustrated by her aunt, Pam Talley, a resident of Tallahassee, Florida. The story centers around a precocious young girl named Madison, who discovers that first appearances are not always what they seem. After the birth of two foals on the family farm, Madison is alarmed when she realizes that one of the babies is covered in white spots. so she seeks out her Grandpa for advice. After listening to Madison’s worries, Grandpa decides the time has come to tell his granddaughter the real story of how horses came to have spots.
Pre-release reactions to the piece have been overwhelmingly positive. Lisa Kemp, of No Biz Like Horsebiz and KempEquine.com, noted, “Horse lovers of all ages are sure to adore this sweet tale about how horses get their spots! The delightful illustrations, family-friendly message, and ‘surprise’ twist make this an engaging story and one of those childhood favorites you’ll always remember.”
Select proceeds from every book published by Caballo Press of Ann Arbor are donated to non-profit organizations related to the equine industry. In the case of ”Two Foals, a Dash of Sprinkles and a Cherry on Top!” a portion of the book’s profits will benefit Rein In Cancer, an organization created to recognize the willingness of the horse community to help with supporting care for cancer patients. Since its inception in 2007, Rein In Cancer has raised over half a million dollars. The group has assisted individuals in funding treatment and endowed the Shirley Bowman Nutrition Clinic at the Oklahoma University Cancer Institute in Oklahoma City.
